• 17 In the Abattoir

    Rob and I are both curious and explorative by nature. So, as part of our documentation of sheep farming in Cumbria, it is fitting that we should go to an abattoir to gain a fuller picture of what it really means for a lamb to travel from fell to plate. We have been by the side of lambs just minutes after birth. Now we have been by their side at the point of death.

    We have made this blog post available as a pdf, knowing that not everyone wishes to explore this side of farming or food production. If you would like to read on, please follow the link to the pdf from our articles page.

    Our words and pictures have been cleared for use by the abattoir officials. In the process, they have been a little sanitised, but we hope that what is here still gives a fair portrayal, at least of our experience.
